KEY POINTS

  • With Russia’s war in Ukraine triggering a supply shock in agricultural produce, the average price of wheat and fertiliser has surged by 88% and 77%, respectively, in the period 24 February to 14 March compared to January.

  • As of the 19th of April 2022, 87 998 commercial flights were flown per day in the last seven days, compared to 77 735 and 27 969 in 2021 and 2020, respectively

  • Global international air cargo capacity decreased by 7% (vs 2019) between March 21 and April 3 2022.

  • 72 cancelled sailings have been announced between weeks 16 and 20, out of a total of 725 scheduled sailings, representing 10% cancellation rate.

  • Global schedule reliability improved M/M in February 2022 by 4.0 percentage points, reaching 34.4%, the first significant M/M improvement we have seen in schedule reliability since March 2020.

  • According to the latest data on the Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter, LNG-powered ship orders now represent 25% of the orderbook by teu capacity. This figure rises to 28% if methanol propulsion is added.
