BMSB 26/27 Season Notice
Changes to the current BMSB regulations.
Largely there have not been any major changes from the authorities in Australia and New Zealand and no new target risk countries have been added to the list.
Australia: Removal of the “Rolled Goods” Policy
This was very rarely used but sometimes raised by customers as a possible option when cargo had exceeded the 120-hour rule. This policy from DAFF has now been ended and there will be no replacement.
DAFF updates can be found here – https://www.agriculture.gov.au/biosecurity-trade/import/before/brown-marmorated-stink-bugs
New Zealand: MPI have confirmed no changes for the 2026/27 season.
French Polynesia (Papeete): Have updated their local biosecurity rules, whilst this should not impact EF sailings, acceptance of NUFT for PPT this season is subject to confirmation ahead of 1st December 2026.
It remains RORO Carriers policy that any cargo loaded from Chinese ports during the BMSB season must be either heat treated or fumigated prior to loading onto our vessels. These treatments must be carried out in accordance with the standards established by the Australian and New Zealand authorities.
RORO Carriers will not accept cargo for loading unless accompanied by a valid treatment certificate issued by a DAFF- or MPI-approved treatment provider, confirming that treatment has been carried out within the approved treatment window. Please note that treatment during the BMSB season does not absolve cargo owners/shippers from the responsibility of ensuring cargo is presented clean and free of contaminants prior to loading.
We also remind customers of the importance of maintaining “Clean Cargo Standards” at all times. Cargo should be free of dirt (including road dirt), animal material, plant material and food residues to avoid costly cargo holds and congestion at discharge ports.
BMSB treatment pricing adjustments in USA due to rising supply costs, labour overheads & facility upgrades.
US areas affected by increases are:
Baltimore, MD
Brunswick, GA
Tacoma, WA
Port Hueneme, CA
